Lava Lamp Theory/
A gentle way to understand creative overwhelm and find calm when your thoughts keep looping - how to pause, reset, and regain clarity.
When Creative Work Starts to Overflow
Creative and business pressures, often overlap, leading to overthinking and rumination. the work, by its very nature, brings with it many moving parts - and for creatives, it’s also deeply interlinked with the personal. It can be a lot to be across all at once.
What is the Lava Lamp Theory?
From time to time, even the most grounded among us can become overwhelmed. The mind shifts from being balanced into a quiet hum of constant rumination. Looping through the what ifs, the conversations, the should have dones, and everything in between.
It’s what we refer to as the Lava Lamp Theory - where many thoughts start to rise, merge, and overlap, one following another without pause.
Learning to Unplug the Lamp
To find calm again, we have to gently disconnect - to unplug the lamp from its source.
By connecting with our feelings, not to analyse or suppress them, but to simply acknowledge that they’re part of a bigger picture, we allow them to bubble away and settle naturally.
Returning to Calm and Clarity
Understanding where those feelings truly come from, begins with the ability to pause and unplug the lamp. From there, clarity can re-emerge from a steadier, quieter place.
There is absolutely no shame in reaching out for help to unplug the lamp - its often the kindest thing we can do for ourselves.
