Lava Lamp Theory/

Creative work and business has many facets to it, and it’s ‘a lot’ to be across it all. From time to time, even the most adept can become overwhelmed, where the mind moves from being balanced, into a state of constant rumination around the ‘what if’s’, the discussions, the ‘should have done’s’ and so on…

Anyone who has spoken with me when they are trying to balance emotions and confusion, usually get the analogy of the Lava Lamp. It’s a visual that can be helpful when trying to understand tricky situations and how our emotions can bubble up and down.

During these times we can feel many emotions, and just when we think we’ve got it all under control, others come bubbling through…

We have to actively disconnect the lamp from the source, before it will begin to settle.

By connecting with the feelings in a gentle way that acknowledges them for being a part of the bigger picture - that they will come and go, and bubble away - without reacting directly to them, is the knack to gaining balance.
Understanding them and where they ‘truely’ come from, means having the ability to disconnect them from the source.

There is absolutely no shame in reaching out for help to unplug the lamp.

It’s far quicker and healthier to access the switch sooner rather than later.
